Discover what the Ten Commandments mean for us
The Ten Commandments were not demands from a distance: they were intrinsically linked to Israel’s covenant relationship with God. They touch on our relationship with Him, too, and they bring into relief vital issues that are highly relevant to life in the twenty-first century:
- Consider the significance of loyalty – to God and to others
- Understand the true meaning of taking the name of God ‘in vain’
- See how a concern for respect underlies some commandments
Icebreakers, Bible readings, eye openers, discussion starters, personal application make this a rich resource for group or individual study.
About the author
Mary Evans spent three years teaching at the Ethiopian Graduate School in Addis Ababa after taking early retirement from her position as Vice Principal of London School of Theology. She now manages occasional short-term trips back to Ethiopia, but most of her time is spent fulfilling writing and research supervision commitments and involved with family and her local church. She particularly enjoys exploring the stories of the Bible and has a real desire that today’s churches will re-learn to value, love and use the Old Testament, including its stories! Mary has an ongoing commitment to world mission and is on the board of Langham Partnership UK. She is the author of several books, including commentaries on 1 and 2 Samuel and the Tyndale commentary on Judges and Ruth.
